Feb 1978 The revolutionary concept of the Mini Sangeet Sammelans - taking music to small towns all over the country - is started by ITC-SRA
Sep 1978 The Scientific Research Department is set up at ITC-SRA, with Smt Dipali Nag as the Chief Research Co-ordinator.
Jan 1980 The first of a series of All India Musicological Seminars is conducted by ITC-SRA, under the chairmanship of Thakur Jaidev Singh, where eminent musicologists and musicians deliberate on issues of relevance in the field of music.
Apr 1980 The Scientific Research Department is recognised as a Scientific Research Association by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
Sep 1981 The first of a series of International Propagation tours by the ITC-SRA team, commences.
Feb 1982 The Scientific Advisory Panel is set up under the chairmanship of Dr. B D Nag Chaudhuri. The other members of the panel comprising eminent scientists are Dr. S Chatterjee, Dr. D Dutta Majumdar, Dr. M K Dasgupta and Prof. B M Banerjee.
Oct 1985 ITC-SRA takes a team of musicians representing both Hindustani and Carnatic music to the Festival of India, USA and organises 4 major festivals comprising concerts and workshops lasting 3-7 days, at Washington, New York, San Francisco and Boston.
Aug 1986 An international seminar on Rhythm in Indian and Western Music is conducted by ITC-SRA in collaboration with Max Mueller Bhavan at Kolkata to examine and explore the structure, philosophy and behaviour of rhythm in the two systems. Musicologists and musicians from both sides participate.
Sep 1986 The first of a series of annual music festivals, the Golden Greats Music Festival, is organised by ITC-SRA at Kolkata, featuring accomplished maestros under the age of 40.
Mar 1988 The first ITC-SRA Tollygunge Sangeet Sammelan is organised by ITC-SRA for the benefit of music lovers of Tollygunge, where ITC-SRA is situated.
Oct 1988 An ITC-SRA team, consisting of V K Kichlu, V G Jog, Anando Gopal Bandhopadhyay and Sandip Ghosh, goes on a highly successful tour of USA and Canada. Honorary citizenship to the State of Maryland is offered to all the members of the team by the Governor of Maryland, and to the City of Baltimore, by its mayor.
Dec 1988 The Ford Foundation puts forward a proposal to the Government of India, seeking therir permission to sanction a grant of approximately $150,000 to ITC-SRA for conducting two major research projects in areas of classical music.
Mar 1990 ITC Sangeet Research Academy under a grant from Ford Foundation, USA takes up the assignment of collecting 5076 compositions (Bandish) from forty one living exponents of nine Khayal gharanas. The unique features of this Gharana Project are collection, documentation, analysis, systematisation and finally dissemination of musical information among research scholars and devoted musicians - an activity that is unparalleled in the history of North Indian music.
Sep 1990 ITC-SRA Western Region organises its first seminar under the stewardship of Sri Arvind Parikh, on the subject of Sitar.
Dec 1991 An International Workshop on Speech, Music and Allied Signal Processing is held at New Delhi, jointly organised by ITC-SRA, Acoustical Society of India (Kolkata), Indian Statistical Institute and Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute, Delhi. An extensive seminar on the Sarod is organised by ITC-SRA Western Region at Bombay.
Dec 1993 Pt. A Kanan, veteran guru and member of the ITC-SRA family receives the prestigious ITC Award at Delhi's Sangeet Sammelan.
Jan 1995 Smt Malavika Kanan gets the prestigious ITC Award for her continuing distinguished service in the field of classical music at Kolkata's Sangeet Sammelan.
May 1996 ITC-SRA conducts a seminar on Teaching Methods of Classical Music and Dance in Bangkok, Thailand.
Nov 1996 ITC-SRA Western Region, in collaboration with NCPA and Music Forum holds a seminar on Indian Music and the West, at Mumbai. The seminar is supported by the International Institute for Asian Studies, Rotterdam Conservatory, Zee Music and Dept of Culture, Govt. of India.
Aug 1998 1st presentation of "Guru-Shishya Parampara" features some of the gurus of the academy and their shishyas. A 4-day presentation of only vocal music takes Kolkata by storm.
Mar 2001 Rare traditional compositions are showcased in a 'Bandish Baithak' at the Basant Utsav soiree at ITC-SRA. Erudite musicians like Pt. Ram Ashreya Jha, Ajoy Chakraborty, Mashkoor Ali Khan, Abdul Rashid Khan and Subhra Guha participated.
Jan 2002 A seminar on 'Globalisation and Indian music' was organized by the ITC-SRA (Western Region) in collaboration with the NCPA and Music forum, Mumbai. The event was supported by the Rotterdam Conservatory, The Hague Conservatory and Pro Helvetia.
Mar 2002 An Instrumental division is introduced at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy.
Nov 2002 In collaboration with ITC-SRA and Department of Cultural Affairs (Governemnt of West Bengal), Sangeet Natak, Akademi, New Delhi organized an event called 'Rag Darshan' in which little heard ragas were presented by experts like Dinkar Kaikini, T. D. Janorikar and Suhasini Koratkar, Babbanrao Haldankar, Bharati Vyshampayam, Sulochana Brihaspati, Ramashray Jha and Mashkoor Ali Khan.
Apr 2003 A workshop was held in collaboration with the British Council at the ITC-SRA auditorium by the well-known multi-percussionist from UK, Pete Lockett.
Aug 2003 Celebrations of 25 years of ITC-SRA were begun with a seminar on Ragas, entitled "Raga Parikrama".
Nov 2003 As part of the 25th anniversary celebrations, a reunion of past scholars was organised.
Aug 2004 A seminar on "Stylistic Patterns of the pathfinders of HIndustani Classical music" was organized at the ITC-SRA auditorium
Jan 6-7, 2005 An International Workshop ‘Frontiers of Research in Speech & Music’ (FRSM) is held at Resource Centre for Indian Language Technology Solution, Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. The special theme: is ‘I.T.-to-Mass: Speech and Music’.
Jan 14-16, 2005 An international symposium on ‘India-Iran:Confluence of Musical Cultures’ is organized by ITC-SRA Western Region.
Sep 3, 2005 ITC-SRA Western Region begins broadcasting a half hour programme featuring vocal and instrumental performances of 16 – 30 year-olds over Ashmita Vahini, All India Radio, Mumbai.
Sep 20-21, 2005 A Seminar ‘The Crossroads’ is held at the auditorium. Participants include Dr Ashok Ranade, Arvind Parikh, Dipali Nag, Buddhadev Das Gupta, Vidyadhar Vyas, Ashwini Bhide Bikram Ghosh, Gajendra Narain Singh, Deepak Raja, Amarendra Dhaneswar, Shankarlal Bhattacharya, Vijay Kichlu, Ajoy Chakrabarty, Ulhas Kashalkar, Shruti Sadolikar and Amit Mukerjee.
Mar 16-18, 2006 Shrimati Dhondutai Kulkarni conducts a Workshop on the Jaipur Gharana.
July 17-18, 2006 The Calcutta School of Music invites ITC-SRA to begin a series of concerts at its Sandre Hall.
Aug 2006 A Seminar ‘Hindustani Raga Music - Future Responsibilities’ is held at the Auditorium. Participants include Amit Mukerjee, Suvarnalata Rao, Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, Tanmoy Bose, Purbayan Chatterjee, Buddhadev Das Gupta, Bickram Ghosh, Shankar Ghosh, Sanjoy Bandopadhyay, Dipali Nag, Vijay Kichlu, Satish Vyas, Sushmita Chakravarty, Ranjan Mitter, Mala Mukerjee, Falguni Mitra, Anuja Chakravarty, ratnottama Sengupta, Geeta Sahai and Girija Devi.
Nov 2006 The first of a series of International Propagation tours by the ITC-SRA team, commences.
Jan 2007 An international seminar on ‘Composing, Composition and Composers in Music’ is organized by ITC-SRA Western Region.
Jan 2007 The 19th international symposium ‘Frontiers of Research on Speech and Music (FRSM-2007)’ is held at All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, Mysore. The special theme is ‘Acoustics of Speech and Music’.
Jan 2007 ‘Homecoming’, a reunion of past scholars organized on a grand scale for the first time.
Mar 2007 A weekly 30-minute sponsored programme on All India Radio’s FM Rainbow channel begins.
July 2007 A 15-member team from Centre for Performing Arts, Lalit Kala Kendra (Gurukul), Pune University visits the Academy.
Oct 2007 The Academy begins its first Music Appreciation Course.
Jan 2008 An international seminar on ‘The Changing Profile of Indian Music’ is organised by ITC-SRA Western Region.
May 2008 The Academy introduces Guided listening Sessions for members of its Music Circle.
Feb 2008 The 20th international symposium ‘Frontiers of Research on Speech and Music(FRSM-2008)’ is held at Sir C V Raman Centre for Physics and Music, Jadavpur University, Kolkata.
Mar 2008 A 4-day workshop for breath control and range of voice is conducted by Dr G K Ketkar.
Sep 2008 Ustad Nasiruddin Sami of Karachi, Pakistan visits the Academy.
