Waseem Ahmed Khan

Waseem Khan is the grandson of Ustad Basheer Khan, he took his initial taalim from his maternal grandfather Ustad Ata Hussain Khan at the age of six. Thereafter, he learnt from his father Ustad Naseem Ahmed Khan. In July 1999, he became a scholar of ITC -SRA under erstwhile Guru Ustad Shafi Ahmed Khan, who was his grand uncle. He left the Academy in April 2003, after becoming an A grade scholar. He is a regular performer of All India Radio.

Born in 1974, Waseem Khan comes from the great lineage of traditional musicians of the Agra gharana, being the grandson of Ustad Basheer Khan Sahib.

Waseem took his initial taalim from his maternal grandfather, the late Ustad Ata Hussain Khan at the young age of six. Thereafter, he continued his taalim from his father, the late Ustad Naseem Ahmed Khan. In July 1999, Waseem became a scholar of ITC Sangeet Research Academy under erstwhile Guru Ustad Shafi Ahmed Khan, who was his grand uncle. He left the Academy in April 2003, after becoming an A grade Scholar.

Waseem`s performance debut was at the age of ten. Since then he has performed at various important concerts all over the country, sharing the stage with prominent maestros. In 2007 he went on a concert tour of France, one of his memorable performances being at the Theatre de-la-ville in Paris. He has taught for five years as a senior faculty member of S.B.M.T, an Academy run by Ustad Rashid Khan and is currently assisting with ITC SRA projects.

This recital is an excerpt from a live recording in Kolkata in 2009. Accompanying him were Sandip Ray Chaudhuri on tabla and Sanatan Goswami on harmonium.
