Violina’s performance at the Wednesday Recital, 11th September, 2024:

The Violina delivered a unique performance at the Wednesday Recital, 11th September, 2024. Led by Shri Ranen Sinha, the group has been delivering a number of performances in India and abroad, expressing itself through the Violin. Violina got its name from late Pandit Deepak Chowdhury. Violina has been creating a bridge between North and South Indian Classical Music. They also focus on semi-Classical and Western Classical Music as well.

They began their performance with “Desh Vandana”, an improvisation on songs like “Vande Maataram” and “Sare jahan se accha”. A collage of South and North Indian Classical Music which included “Vathapi Ganapatim”, a composition by Muthuswami Dikshitar based on Raga Mangaldhwani, followed by Raga Hamsadhwani came up next. This was followed by “Ma”, a composition by Pandit Deepak Chowdhury.

Next, they played the “Extasy of Nature”, a composition in Raga Bihari, set to Dadra Taal. A mélange of Mozzart’s 25th and 40th Symphony with Raga Bhimpalasi was the next item, which they have named “Collage Parikrama”. Next on the list was an improvisation on a song by Rabindranath Tagore, “Esho shyamolo shundoro”, followed by a composition of Pandit Ravi Shankar on Raga Desh. The Violina successfully improvised on semi-Classical compositions on Raga Shivranjani like “Mere nayna sawan bhado” and “Jane kaha gaye wo din”. The set was named “Nostalgia”.

Violina concluded the performance with improvisations on Kirtan Ang compositions like “Bhenge mor ghorer chabi”, “Tomay hridmajhare rakhbo” and “Jodi tor dak shune keu na ashe” and a collage of popular Bhajans of India. The performers for the day were Oindri Mukherjee, Shreya Saha, Chayan Bose, Shirshendu Roy, Hridi Nag, Sayan Sinha and Hindola Sinha, accompanied by Avik Ganguly on the Tabla and Raj Kumar Saha on the Synthesizer. The recital was conducted by Shri Ranen Sinha.
