The Malhar Festival began amid heavy monsoons this year. A number of talents were showcased on the prestigious stage of GD Birla Sabhagar. Amaan Hussain opened the festival with a soothing performance in Raga Miyan Ki Malhar. He was accompanied by Shri Ashoke Mukherjee on the Tabla. Amaan, a Scholar with Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty and Janab Sarwar Hussain illustrated the Raga with two compositions set to vilambit ektaal and drut tintaal.
Amaan’s performance was followed by Sai Eishwary Mahashabde, a Musician Scholar with Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar. He began with a bandish of Raga Gaur Malhar set to vilambit tintaal which was followed by two compositions set to madhyalay and drut tintaal. Sai concluded with a kajri. He was accompanied by Shi Bivash Sanghai on the Tabla and Smt. Rupashree Bhattacharya on the Harmonium.
The last performer of the day was Pandit Budhaditya Mukhopadhyay. He concluded the soiree with a breathtaking Ramdasi Malhar. Budhaditya was accompanied by Shri Soumen Nandy on the Tabla.
