Our Scholars Perform
Mallar was initiated into classical music by his parents at the age of four following which he also trained under Smt. Supriya Banerjee, a disciple of Late Vidushi Annapurna Devi. He has been with ITC SRA since 2006 under the tutelage of sarod maestro Pandit Buddhadev Das Gupta first as a General Class student and later as a Scholar. Mallar is also taking guidance from Pandit Debashish Bhattacharya and Shri Abir Hussain, disciples of Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta.
He earned his Bachelor’s and Masters’ degrees in instrumental music from Rabindra Bharati University where he topped his class on both occasions with a first class first and won gold medals including the Pandit Nikhil Banerjee Award.
Awarded the National Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in 2008, Mallar stood first in the State Music Academy competition in 2010 and received the Ustad Alauddin Khan Memorial Award from NCPA, Mumbai, where he was invited to perform, by Pandit Arvind Parikh. He has also been awarded with the Acharya Alauddin Music Circle Medal by his university in recognition of his highest grade in instrumental music in 2013.
Apart from performing with his Guru at several prestigious programs, Mallar has performed at concerts all over the country. Some of these performances include the ITC Sangeet Sammelan, Kolkata, ITC Mini Sangeet Sammelans at Agartala, Silchar, Jamshedpur, the SPICMACAY Annual Conference, Delhi, All India Radio Music Conference, Delhi and Kolkata, and the Indian Habitat Centre in Delhi. He has also received the rare opportunity of performing at the Governor's house.
Mallar is a B-High artiste of All India Radio, and was an A grade scholar of ITC Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata before he moved to Delhi to pursue his professional career in music.
